The Dean of School of Information and Communication Studies, University of Ghana (UG), says the National Security boss must be called to account for the actions of its operatives.
"We have to be concerned about the National Security and the terrible culture of lawlessness and brutality they exhibit and recognize that, there is an obvious crisis of impunity that the government and the Minister for National Security must address with urgency. It is a problem and the Minister for National Security, who is a former lawmaker should be held accountable for the actions in his ministry. He must be asked to address what seems to be a systemic problem within the ministry," she urged.
Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo's call on Newsfile Saturday, follows a recent attack on Accra-based Citi FM's Caleb Kudah for allegedly filming at the premises of the National Security Ministry.
Narrating his ordeal, Caleb said he was subjected to various forms of brutalities while in the custody of the National Security operatives.
The Professor said perpetuators of the act must be brought to book.
"Then, of course, we have to hold the individuals implicated in this case accountable. They must be investigated and sanctioned. The impunity will continue if those responsible are not held responsible and sanctioned appropriately."
On his part, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, Ken Ashigbey called for an independent probe into the assault.
He says most cases handled by the National Security Ministry are left unresolved. Thus, the recent and subsequent assaults by operatives of the ministry must be handled by independent bodies.
