The Communications Officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described as hypocritical, the President's decision to prosecute leaders of Christ Embassy Church for holding an event that drew a huge crowd in an enclosed area.
Sammy Gyamfi who has previously complained about the selective implementation of the Imposition of Restrictions Act, 2020 (Act 1012) also questioned the constitutionality the law.
In a Facebook post, Mr Gyamfi called it "sacrilege" for the leaders and organisers to be prosecuted.
“It’s a sacrilege and in fact, the height of hypocrisy for President Akufo-Addo to prosecute leaders of the Christ Embassy church for holding a program to preach Christ and heal the sick,” his post read.

He further argued that the laws banning mass gatherings were still in force when political parties went about their campaigns ahead of the 2020 elections but none of them was charged.
On Thursday, the state charged four persons or violating restrictions on public gathering at Christ Embassy’s ‘Pneumatica Night’.
Images and videos of the all-night church held at the Fantasy Dome at the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre went viral on social media on May 2 causing a serious backlash from many social media users who condemned the gross disregard for Covid-19 protocols at the event.
Following that the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) and the Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Ministry called for the arrest and prosecution of the leadership of the church.
