The Committee on Muslim Rights has petitioned the National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah, over alleged threat on Muslims.
In a statement signed by the chairman, Alhaji Prof. Yakubu Seidu Peligah, the committee accused the deputy chairman of the Scripture Union of Ghana of making degenerative statements that threaten the security of the country.
The statement says, Reverend Dr. Samuel Ofori Onwona was captured in an alleged recording and publication of incendiary, inciting and hateful speech against Muslims in the country.
The Committee wants the Minister, to treat the matter with urgency because it threatens national stability founded on religious pluralism, tolerance, and cohesion.
"We write as a matter of extreme urgency to lodge an official complaint against the above-mentioned subject for his alleged recording and publication of incendiary, inciteful, and hate speech against Muslims in Ghana."
"In a viral audio (a copy attached) circulating on social media, the subject of this complaint is heard making statements that have far reaching consequences for national security."
The committee say they are particularly worried because this will not be the first time Rev. Dr Onwona has issued and caused to be published threats and hate speech against Muslims.
"We have taken notice of his previous threats (a copy attached) against the Turkish ambassador in 2019 on account of – as he claims – “a plot to Islamise Ghana” by the Turkish government and bring same to your attention," the statement said.
The two-paged statement also revealed the Committee wants Reverend Dr. Samuel Ofori Onwona be called to order.
