Residents of Sakora Wonoo in the Ashanti Region fear the community may be cut off from other parts of the country, following the deterioration of a bridge linking the community to other parts of the district.
Their fears have heightened after half of the bridge caved in at the onset of the rains.
Drivers have to carefully maneuver their way to cross the bridge which has partially caved in.
The residents said contractors packed out of the community after the Vice President other NPP stalwarts used the road to attend the one week rites of the late CEO of the Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie.
The community led by the queen mother of Sakora Wonoo, Nana Ama Nyarko, stormed the streets to express their displeasure at the governments delay to fix the deplorable road.
The Queenmother says she believes the contribution of NPP’s Former Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie who hails from the community is enough reason to influence the rehabilitation of the road.
She also threatened to stop government functionaries from attending the final funeral rites of Sir John if the roads are not fixed.
"We are pleading with government to come and fix the roads for us, if they refuse to do so, we will bury our deceased without them.
"They should at least honour Sir John with this road," the queen mother said.
District Chief Executive for Kwabre East, Osei Bonsu says road projects in the district have progressed at a slow pace for financial reasons but they are making efforts to get contractors back on the site.
"All the contractors here in this district are telling me that they are waiting for their certificates to be honoured, it means they do not have money but this contractor has assured me he will resume work next month," the DCE said.
