About 122 students have been awarded with various degrees and diplomas by the Accra Business School at its 10th congregation ceremony.
The graduands consisted of 121 MBA’s and a Postgraduate Diploma. Overall best student was Mrs. Georgina Konadu Boateng.
The event was held at the Accra Business School’s Christ Square’ located at Spintex Road on the theme: ‘MBA Education and National Development. Keynote Speaker was Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament.
Constituting the congregation, Prof. Kwame Omane-Antwi, Chairman of the Governing Council of Accra Business School commended Management and Staff of ABS for adopting innovation and working passionately even in the face of the Covid-19 global pandemic to make the graduation a reality.
He reflected on the theme, observing that, quality education has the power to transform society, provide citizens with the protection they need from poverty, labor exploitation, and diseases and provide them with the knowledge, skills, and competencies to reach their full potential to develop their countries.
“MBA Education run by ABS has diverse goals geared towards turning out the right caliber of workforce for both gender, and equipping them with business and entrepreneurial abilities and skills for positions in various sectors of the country”.
“ABS trains MBA students on an avowed standard based on a vision and set of competencies designed to prepare students to become knowledgeable and ethical decision-makers to fulfill their role as consumers, workers and good citizens of Ghana”.
Prof. Kwame Omane-Antwi congratulated the graduands and urged them to go out to become a change agent ready to possess the nation and beyond.
Vice-President of the School, Prof. Elvis Cornerstone in his report described the 10th Congregation as a journey of success so far. “Our total admission on all programmes stands at 1,893. Out of this number, 1,031 students made up of 701 MBAs, 135 Postgraduate Diplomas and 195 Bachelors and Level 7 Extended Diplomas have graduated so far.
The total number of students currently enrolled on the various programmes stands at 862. This consists of 415 MBAs, 172 MSc, 152 Bachelors and 123 Professional students.
Accra Business School he emphasized is poised to soar higher as it repositions itself for the future with four developments including a home-Uni which he described as the African Game Changer offering academic programs 100% online. Second is the strengthening of the internationalization agenda of ABS with two significant collaborative partnerships recently secured.
”We were validated in March by North Wales Business School of Glyndwr, UK to offer degrees in the Business & Management field and also a partnership with an Irish Higher Education Institution-Institute of Technology Carlow to offer a suite of courses in Computer Science all from September this year.
The School has also established in the last few months an International Advisory Board and a Panel of International Visiting Lecturers both comprised of stellar global academics to further burnish its international credentials.
Thirdly the School is enhancing its campus infrastructure which has seen the construction of the ‘Christ Square’, a modern twin-tower facility comprising a library, forty-bed facility, 12 lecture halls, executive learning spaces, restaurants, and an outdoor eatery and finally the 10th MBA graduation itself is an important milestone as the school now belong to a distinguished group of alumni who through their studies with ABS have gone to make an incredible contribution to the development of Ghana and beyond.
President of the School, Prof. Cedric Bell in his address praised the School’s management and students for the continuous academic progress amidst the Covid-19 pandemic as it witnesses the 10th Congregation ceremony which signifies a huge milestone for the academic prospects of the school.
Prof. Bell urged the graduands to embrace the opportunities given them to become conquerors of their chosen Profession for a positive impact on society.
Guest Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament who was represented by Dr. Ibraham Ibn Zakaria, Director of Research, Office of the Speaker said the theme: MBA Education and National Development’ was timely as the two strikes a balance between the role of education and its effect on many variables such as productivity, poverty, social responsibilities, trade, technology, health, income distribution, and family structure.
He said prior to the nineteenth century, investment in human capital wasn’t a priority with significant investment made by way of expenditure on schooling but from the twentieth century, the trend began to change with the introduction of the modern application of science and the development of efficient methods of production through improved technology.
“Today, the productivity of a person and a nation is largely significantly determined by their level of education, skill and acquisition of knowledge.
Even more significant he highlighted is the attainment of an MBA qualification which develops in the individuals the necessary ethics and values enshrined in the various subject areas.
The Speaker urged the graduands to utilize their knowledge acquired and contribute their quota to the country’s development by being productive, helping to reduce poverty through increased income and revenue generation; being socially responsible by following laid down principles and values; and developing good family values for the benefit of all.
