NDC's former Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Joseph Ade Coker has condemned recent actions of leading member Dr Benjamin Kunbour over the provision of 2020 election collated results in the possession of party leadership.
After the just-ended election petition, matters regarding NDC's total votes garnered have come up following concerns by the rank and file of the party questioning the availability of these documents.
But the most recent pressing comment is by one of the party's bigwigs, Dr Benjamin Kumbour indicating that the party's Council of Elders has not had access to the said figures.
“Immediately after the elections, results were coming, we started seeing figures. For the ordinary party member, you said we had won the elections through the figures and collation that the party had done, why is it that those figures did not find their way to the court...
"Political accountability is vertical and horizontal. People don’t know today, what exactly are the collated figures," he told JoyNews.
This act, according to Mr Coker, is unacceptable following the experience held by the party top caders who know the accepted procedures they must follow to request the said election results.
For the former NDC Regional Chair in an interview on Joy FM, such acts should be expected from anonymous or serial callers and not "an elderly person like Kunbour."
"Have you seen the NPP coming out to announce to the whole world the numbers they made? No, we have a system. People must respect party structures…People who have had the privilege of being ministers of state, contesting elections will go to the public and behave this way. They have had the privilege of serving high positions so they should know better.
"The interview you were playing on your station has caused a lot of ripples everywhere. But if serial callers were doing that, that is fine but if an elderly person like him wants to know, he knows what to do. Dr Benjamin Kumbour knows what to do. He is just like anybody in the party. Look don't let us assign titles to everybody. Everybody in the NDC whether you are a footsoldier, we are all the same people. So one person cannot make the party. So we should always think about the collective and not about our individual self, " he told host Evans Mensah.
Speaking on Top Story, Mr Coker said Dr Kunbour should do the needful by reaching out to the party executives in order to be provided with the documents in question.
He also noted that members of the Council of Elders who were present at a three-day retreat at Ho were provided with the 2020 election results - a meeting at which Dr Benjamin Kumbour was absent.
To Mr Ade Coker, Dr Kunbour together with other personalities including Volta Chair of the Council of Elders, Dan Abodapki have failed to ask the party executives for the party's election results.
"We have the collated results. I'm surprised why Dr Kunbour being a member of the Council of Elders hasn't availed himself or asked the Executives to render account to the Council of Elders. If the Council of Elders is that interested in the figures, they would have asked. You just don't go and say you are coming to give figures when they know the situation and they know what has happened at the party.
"The rank and file of the party have not come to tell the national executives that we should come to the public and announce our figures. We have a forum where if you wanted to know the figures the party had garnered you [should've attended]. There are structures in the party where everyone must follow...Over the weekend, there was a retreat and whatever we have to know within the party was made available to us," he said.
He iterated that the failure of the top caders to ascertain the said information from colleagues in the party proves that their action is deliberate.
Every member of the party he says is aware of the steps to be taken to register their grievances hence, they should desist from actions that should be left for "those who will carry placards on the street."
"That is what pains me. These are people who have had the privilege of serving the party and they have colleagues in the party whom they always talk to. Are you telling me that the communication has broken down that they cannot talk to their colleagues at the party and they have to go to the public and do that? They have colleagues, they meet every time. So if they don't understand something, couldn't they have contacted their colleagues at the levels that they are with them?
"You don't go to the public, we don't. Especially when you are an elder of the party," he added.
