A member of the National Democratic Congress' Council of Elders, Dr Benjamin Kunbuor says it is shocking people still put a "premium" on money as a key mechanism to winning elections.
According to the former Interior Minister history has time and again proved this truism to politicians.
“I want to give you an example, NDC performed so badly in the 2016 elections when it had more resources, but it did better in the 2020 elections when it didn’t have those resources. So why is it that with all this evidence, people still put a premium on money?" he quizzed.
Dr Kunbuor explained to Evans Mensah on JoyNews' PM Express Monday that, although money is important when it comes to winning an election, it is only as good as the party agent who utilises it.
"I know money is important for political work, but that money is supposed to be used by human agents to deliver the votes," he said.
"But If you make that the precondition for election victory, the evidence show clearly that there is no direct correlation between an amount of money you out in an election and the outcome of that election," he stressed.
The former Nandom MP further cautioned individuals claiming to know some "rich" persons holding the foundation of the party with their wealth to cease spreading false doctrines.
He said, he will never accept it and neither will he stand by to see it flourish within the party because "judging from where I stand and my ideological position, monetising politics in an emerging economy is a dangerous step."
Dr Kunbuor stated that such a development must not be entertained by any party whatsoever.
"Monetising politics in a country or an economy where a majority of the people are still down [the economic ladder] and struggling is a dangerous step," he said.
Dr Benjamin Kunbuor further indicated that the party is in good shape and will come in stronger after it overcomes its current phase of uncertainty and tension.
He is convinced current happenings in the party are setting the NDC for a better comeback.
