A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has refuted the assertion that the party executives were not officially informed about a forum held in Tema on Saturday.
Speaking on Top Story with Evans Mensah, Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere indicated that prior to the forum dubbed ‘Securing NDC’s Future,’ a letter was written to the NDC Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo informing him about the initiative.
"Indeed we wrote to the party and we believe that they received the letter. So it will be difficult for us to think or believe that the party says that they were not aware of what we were going to do. We addressed it to the Chairman of the party," he said.
The former Eastern Regional Minister's comment comes after the Deputy General Secretary, Peter Otokunor disclosed that the Party executives were not informed about the said event.
In an interview with JoyNews, Mr Otokunor noted that the party leadership did not give the cadres the go-ahead to carry out such an initiative.
But in a sharp rebuttal, Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere further iterated that the letter also invited party executives to the said forum.
Also responding to the controversial clash of the two events, he intimated that the three-day retreat organised by some leaders of the NDC came as a surprise to them since they had no knowledge of it.
The programme which was attended by the 2020 flagbearer, John Mahama and running mate, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, among other things was to assess the party’s performance in the 2020 general elections, strengthen its structures and strategise on the reorganisation for victory in the next presidential and parliamentary polls.
Nevertheless, he stated that if they were informed about the program, they would have rescheduled their event and gone to support the three-day program in their full capacity.
"No, we were not aware. We were told afterwards that that was the situation…When we sent the letter if they called us that ' no, we are going to do this. You are even invited to observe'. We would have taken note of that and accordingly readjust our programs. But nothing was done, no acknowledgement. We were just ignored," he added.
