Call it an ambitious projection but Ghana’s lightweight champion, Michael ‘One Bullet’ Ansah has thrown a challenge to former IBO champion Emmanuel ‘Game Boy’ Tagoe.
Ansah, who recently won the last instalment of a trilogy against his long time ring foe, Sheriff Quaye, believes he is a more disciplined boxer after weaning himself off certain regular habits. “Recently I visited former Black Stars Captain Stephen Appiah who said to me – ‘no pain no gain’. So for now, no alcohol, no smoking and plenty sex,” he said on last Saturday’s Joy Sports Link on Joy 99.7fm.
According to the boxer, he now indulges in very minimal sex and trains a lot while consuming a lot of water and yoghurt.
“I want a fight with Game Boy. Richard Commey is my master so I cannot fight against him in the division. I want Game Boy,” he said.
Michael ‘One Bullet’ Ansah believes his ‘master’ and friend Richard Commey is a better boxer than former IBO champion, Emmanuel Tagoe. “Richard Commey is my master and my teacher. I want Game Boy. I want that flight,” he added in a confident tone.
Michael ‘One Bullet’ Ansah defeated Sherrif ‘One Time’ Quaye a second time in three bouts last month at the Bukom Boxing Arena to settle scores in Ghana’s lightweight division. The bout, which was also a Commonwealth eliminator, has placed One Bullet in the path for a Commonwealth title in the coming months.
Now I train very hard so if any opponent dares me in the ring I will give them an ‘accurate’ (bad punch).
One Bullet recently became a social media sensation after a video of him giving a literal answer to a question posed by Ring Announcer Nathaniel Attoh, went viral.
His target, Emmanuel Tagoe is currently in the US which is likely to be a major world title eliminator. He won his last bout against Mason Menard in Hollywood, via a majority decision.
With a record of 32 wins, one loss and 15 of the wins coming by knockout Emmanuel Tagoe is likely to land a shot at one of the major world titles within the next year. Tagoe annexed the IBO lightweight title in November 2016 at the Bukom Boxing Arena, after defeating South Africa’s Mzonke Fana via a unanimous decision.
One Bullet has 20 wins, 10 losses and two draws with his best achievement so far being the national lightweight title of Ghana.
