GPL: Four games to look out for on matchday 20

King Faisal players getting ready for a Ghana Premier League match

All too soon, matchday 20 is here. After this matchday, there’ll be 14 more meaning there isn’t a lot of time.

There is a top of the table clash between Asante Kotoko and Olympics as Hearts and Karela look to also capitalise in the title race.

The relegation battle is also becoming more interesting with about six teams involved.

Here are four games you can’t afford to miss this weekend.

Great Olympics vs Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko will have a chance to revenge their defeat in the first round against Olympics on Friday.

Michael Yeboah of Olympics scored the solitary goal when these two sides met earlier, a goal that eventually contributed to the sacking of Maxwell Konadu.

Since then, Kotoko have improved and currently sit top of the table.

Olympics sit in second just one point behind the Porcupines and will fight for their lives knowing they could end their 43 year trophy drought.

Stadium: Accra Sports stadium, Accra

Time: Friday, 15:00GMT

Prediction: Olympics 1-2 Asante Kotoko

King Faisal vs AshGold

A regional derby which usually has everything from goals to crunchy tackles to drama.

There’s a lot at stake as AshGold could find themselves in a late relegation tussle.

Last matchday’s narrow win over Hearts of Oak will give the Miners much needed confidence heading into this derby.

King Faisal who are four points off safety need maximum points against AshGold.

That’ll be difficult considering the fact that King Faisal haven’t beaten AshGold in the last 8 years.

Stadium: Ohene Ameyaw Park, Techiman

Time: Saturday , 15:00GMT

Prediction: King Faisal 3-2 AshGold

Medeama vs Legon Cities

A very important clash with both sides needing all three points for contrasting reasons.

Medeama know that three points could improve their outside chance of challenging for the title.

Whilst Legon Cities want to extend the gap between themselves and the relegation zone.

Both sides couldn’t be separated in the first round when they met. However, there’s a feeling that could change this time round.

Medeama’s new signing Ahmed Toure is in form, scoring two goals against Dreams FC in the previous matchday.

Legon Cities also put up an impressive performance to beat Olympics 2-0, ending a two-match losing streak in the process.

This could be remembered as the match that made Medeama title favourites, or the match that propelled Legon Cities out of the relegation battle.

Stadium: Akoon Park, Tarkwa

Time: Sunday, 15:00GMT

Prediction: Medeama 3-1 Legon Cities

Hearts of Oak vs Inter Allies

Samuel Boadu tasted his first defeat as Hearts of Oak coach when his side lost to AshGold last matchday.

All eyes will be on the Accra Sports stadium to see how they bounce back especially against a side that beat them in the first round.

Inter Allies haven’t been the same since that victory. The Accra-based side are rooted at the bottom eight points from safety.

The fixtures aren’t getting any easier and it might take a miracle for the Eleven is to One boys to stay up.

Inter Allies gave themselves a glimmer of hope after beating title contenders Karela United and will be looking to cause a similar upset this weekend.

Hearts have been strong at home, picking up 21 points from the Accra Sports stadium and will be confident of returning to winning ways.

Stadium: Accra Sports stadium, Accra

Time: Sunday, 18:00GMT

Prediction: Hearts of Oak 3-2 Inter Allies
