Super Eagles Captain, Ahmed Musa has made a shock return to boyhood club Kano Pillars for the remainder of the 2020/21 Nigerian league season.
The 28-year-old had been a free agent since leaving Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr back in October and has reportedly received several offers from England, Russia and Turkey.
While considering his next European destination in the summer, the winger received a proposition from the governor of Kano, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the League Management Company (LMC) for a short stint in Nigeria.
Musa is no stranger to the ‘Pride of Kano’, having come through the youth ranks of the team and ending the 2009 season as the top scorer of the Nigerian Professional Football League with 18 goals, before leaving his hometown to join VVV-Venlo in the Netherlands.
“Anything that improves the image of Nigerian football is something that I strive to embark on and Kano Pillars holds a special place in my heart,” Musa told BBC Africa about his return back to his country.
“It’s the team that helped me become the professional footballer I am today, so this is more than just football but a very strong bond,” he added.
Musa had a very successful career in Europe, representing the likes of Holland’s VVV-Venlo, CSKA Moscow of Russia, and Premier League outfit Leicester City, before moving to Saudi giants Al Nassr.
He has six trophies to hisi name in Russia as well as the Saudi league and Saudi Super cup during his time with the Yellow and Blue.
But he will now return to where it all started for him and will hope to guide Kano Pillars to their first league title since 2014 as they currently sit second on the table, just behind leaders Kwara United on goal difference.
On the international level, Musa has led the Super Eagles to win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and represented them in the past two World Cups, scoring a brace against each of Argentina and Iceland.
