Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has touted President Akufo-Addo's vision for the education sector as the best in the entire world.

According to him, government's investments and policies direction are targeted at altering Ghana's developmental trajectory in order to compete globally.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with JoyNews' Daniel Dadzie, the Sector Minister said education remains the best legacy in lifting many individuals above the poverty line.

"The President has a vision; second to none in the world in terms of education transformation. The passion of the President, fully understanding that education is what will transform this country.

"Investing in Free Senior High School; bringing millions of children to school and making sure that we embark on infrastructure expansion, making sure that STEM is promoted. These are big issues making sure that we can compete just like anybody else" he explained.

Dr Adutwum indicated that his preoccupation since assuming office in 2017, first as the Deputy Education Minister, and now as the substantive Minister is to assist the President to change the fortunes of Ghanaians by laying a strong foundation in education.

He revealed that President Akufo-Addo has authorised the Education Ministry to participate in the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA); an initiative that measures the performance of 15-year-old students' in reading, mathematics, and science literacy every three years.

The Bosomtwe MP further said the government's ambitious target of achieving 40% gross enrollment in tertiary education owing to the implementation of the Free SHS policy will be the game changer. He added that Ghana's current gross enrollment ratio pegged at 18.8% and efforts are being made to improve the figures in the shortest possible time.

"If we focus on the vision of the President, we will transform this country. We heard the President talk about a 40% gross tertiary enrollment ratio during the State of the Nation Address. It is a game-changer. And I know that some people said that is only a 40% growth in enrollment.

"No!, 40% gross tertiary enrollment ratio means 300% increase in tertiary. That is a bold agenda. That also said he (President Akufo-Adoo) wants more engineers in this country. That is what I'm focused on," Dr Adutwum said.

Dr Osei Adutwum said government is not only interested in expanding access to education but bent on churning out students that are ready to compete on the international stage.

The Education Minister is of the firm belief that the President's vision if given the necessary push by all stakeholders, Ghana's socio-economic transformation will be improved.
