Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Bagbin has bemoaned the attacks on state actors and institutions in recent times.
According to him, the phenomenon is affecting the resolve to build strong institutions such as the judiciary, legislature and Auditor-General's Department to propel the country’s growth and development.
Speaking at the U.S.-Ghana Exchange Alumni Virtual Conference 2021 in Accra on Saturday, he said the citizenry has failed to allow their deeds to be guided by the Directive Principles of State Policy.
"There are matters about building strong institutions like the Judiciary, the Legislature and the Auditor-General's Department. But it looks like our society is a bit confused.
"We seem to be confused about where we are headed for. We are confused about the place of principles, objectivity and impartiality in the conduct of national politics.
"Consequently, anyone who espouses a strong position on these becomes the subject of attacks. We are confused about the importance of placing the interest of the nation above our own parochial political interest.
"These have created some complications in our body politics with regards to trust, relationships and fairness among others," Speaker of Parliament said.
Quoting former US President J.F. Kennedy, to drive home the point that there is nothing easy about life especially of a country if it intends to grow and develop.
The Speaker said although the former US leader was speaking broadly about the much-talked-about American Dream, it reflects the Ghanaian dream as well.
