Great Olympics Director Oluboi Commodore says he only seeks to know whether it is lawful to use state funds to support a private company as he questions the sponsorship of Karela United FC by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC and Ghana Gas.
Oluboi has stated that his side’s chances of winning the Ghana Premier League is minimal as compared to that of Karela United due to the ‘government’ sponsoring the current league leaders through Ghana Gas and GNPC.
In an earlier interview with Otec FM, the experienced administrator revealed how tough it was going to be for the Dade Boys to clinch the domestic topflight title.
"Olympics can win this year's league but we might not because we are competing with the Gov't. All the clubs playing the league are competing with the Gov't because GNPC and GH-Gas are supporting Karela Fc with the country's money to succeed, money that is supposed to be shared among the clubs," he said.
He believes he has been misunderstood by the public and his quest is to only ascertain how lawful it is for a government company to sponsor a private entity.
In an interview with PJ Mozee on Nhyira Power Sports, the veteran administrator throws more light on his statements and intentions.
“Karela is a private limited liability company and by the regulations of the GFA registers every club as such by shares or guarantee. Karela United is not a community club. Even Kumasi Asante Kotoko is not a community club. State institutions don’t sponsor limited liability companies,” he said.
“If GNPC want more eyeballs, the Black Stars is the best. Hearts of Oak or Kotoko is the best because they have more numbers but as a state institution, the money should go to the benefit of all stakeholders. It is unfair to use state funds to support private companies. I just want to seek if the partnership between Karela United FC, GNPC and Ghana Gas is lawful. I will be happy if they were giving it to me (Great Olympics) too but I want to know whether it is lawful. The impression that we are politicizing it is wrong. We are talking football and that is it, “Oluboi added.
The Dade boys currently lie 2nd on the table with 30 points after first round.
