The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended a member of the party's communication team, Stephen Atubiga.

The decision comes less than 24 hours after the party fired its Central Regional Chairman, Bernard Allotey Jacobs.

In a letter sighted by JoyNews and signed by the party's General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the NDC said the suspension follows some publications made by the communicator on March 8, 12 and 14.

According to the statement, although Mr. Atubiga had made earlier promises to refrain from denting the image of the party during a meeting with the national executives on February 24, 2021, he breached the promise contrary to Article 47 (1) (a,b) of the Party's constitution.

"At the end of its deliberation, therefore, the following decisions were taken in accordance with the said Articles 48 (1), 48 (8a and b) of the Party's constitution;

"That with immediate effect, your membership of the NDC is suspended," the statement said.

Again, Mr. Atubiga is accused of failing to apologize to a 2020 flagbearer aspirant, Joshua Alabi as directed by the party.

In conclusion, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia said the decision by FEC has been refered to the Disciplinary Committee for further action.

"It is our hope that you would co-operate with the Disciplinary Committee for an expeditious determination of your case," the statement said.

But the outspoken communicator who did not seem surprised by his suspension, took to Facebook to confirm the news.

In his post, Stephen Atubiga indicated that the NDC stands for probity and accountability, and therefore members of the party have a right to demand that from elected leaders.

"Every man must always stand by the truth. Even if the truth would take your life. So shall your conviction of the truth always set you free," he wrote.

I have been reliably informed of my suspension from the NDC party . The truth shall always set the record...

The recent suspension by the party follows a similar action taken against former Deputy General-Secretary, Samuel Koku Anyidoho in February this year.

Mr. Anyidoho who has been active on Twitter since 2020 had not missed an opportunity to criticize his party while showering praises on the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its leadership.

But on February 9, 2021, the NDC in a letter addressed to Mr. Anyidoho and signed by General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia said his suspension is pending a final determination following a petition by two registered NDC members about his conducts which they viewed to be in breach of the NDC's constitution.
