A member of the New Patriotic Party's Communications and Legal team has intimated that the administrative errors by the Electoral Commission (EC), did not subvert the will of the people.
Nana Adjoa Adobea Asante said the figures that constituted vote padding as alleged by the NDC were not significant enough to change the outcome of the 2020 elections.
“When there’s a voter difference of about 500,000, how can 5,600 votes materially change the outcome of the elections?” she said on the Super Morning Show, Friday.
The comment comes after the Supreme Court ruled against the petitioner, John Mahama, in the 2020 election petition on grounds that the petition presented the Court "has no merit."
Former President John Mahama petitioned the Supreme Court to challenge the outcome of the 2020 December polls on grounds that the election was "flawed and fictitious."
The petitioner further alleged that the Electoral Commission padded votes in favour of the governing NPP.
This claim was based on a later declaration of election results by the EC after an initial one was made.
The NPP's legal team, however, has rebutted the claims, insisting that President Akufo-Addo won the elections with majority of votes cast in his favour.
"When the calculations [of the election results] were made in court, at every point in time, Johnson Asiedu Nketia [PW 1] arrived at the more than 50% threshold for Nana Akufo-Addo.
"As such, the court stated that you cannot fixate on the errors and it's wrong to do so but use the corrected figures that have been put out by the EC.
"And when the ECs data was used, the figures clearly and abundantly showed that Nana Addo Dankwa obtained the 50%+ threshold," the lawyer said.
