NDC National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi

The National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has assured Ghanaians that the party will not disrupt the peace and stability enjoyed in the country even if the verdict does not go in their favour.

Sammy Gyamfi in an interview with JoyNews' Emefa Apawu indicated that the safety of Ghanaian citizens is the party's topmost priority, and would therefore not do anything to undermine the rule of law.

"We are not a lawless party, John Mahama is not a lawless person. I think over the years, the NDC and our leader have shown that we have this country at heart. We are democrats and we believe in the rule of law.

"Be rest assured that the NDC, its leaders, its members will not do anything to undermine the peace and stability of this country. Ghana is the only country we have and we must always ensure we use our systems and laws to resolve whatever differences or disagreements we have with the system or decision by our courts and that is what we will do," he said.

Mr Gyamfi's comment comes in line with the preparedness of the Legal Counsel of the Petitioner, John Dramani Mahama, ahead of the pronouncement of the verdict in the ongoing 2020 election petition hearing on Thursday.

In spite of the assurance to maintain peace and stability in the country, the Communications Officer stated that the legal team of the petitioner will not be intimidated and will not hesitate to share their thoughts on the matter if need be.

"The full judgement will be ready at some point, our lawyers will take their time and go through [it]. We will make our position on the judgement known, if we are in favour of the decision we will say so. If we think the decision is faulty, we will point that out courageously without any fear or contradiction.

He further revealed that it expects the apex court to uphold the truth, but if they will not get that at the Apex Court, then an alternative approach will be engaged.

"If there are any other rights that we can exercise in challenging the decision should it not be favourable and should it be necessary to do so, we will do so in accordance with the law of this country".
