It's been a few months since Demi Lovato first gave the world a glimpse of her new short hair back in November 2020 and now she's opening up about what the hair transformation has meant for her.
Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on February 22, Demi revealed her new hairdo has allowed her to feel more like herself than ever before.
“I feel so free. I feel more authentic to who I am. I also feel like I used to hide behind my hair,” she said.
“I’ve talked a lot about my past and being in recovery from an eating disorder. I used to use my hair to hide behind. It would cover my body. So when I started doing all this work on myself, I thought, ‘What is something that I’ve been holding onto my whole life that I need to let go of?’ And it was that. I feel more myself now.”
Since getting the "big chop," Demi has dyed her pixie a raspberry pink shade, which she gelled back for her appearance on Ellen.
They talked together about how good a short buzz feels, as well as Demi’s upcoming four-part docuseries, Dancing With The Devil, which will be released on YouTube.
“We live in a time where nobody’s perfect,” Demi said.
“And we’re not going to get role models by watching people not make mistakes. We’re going to meet and learn from our role models who have overcome their deepest, darkest struggles.”
Vulnerability and authenticity look so good on you, Demi! (The hair too, of course!)
