Women are sometimes excluded from inheriting properties from their husbands and in some societies their fathers.
Thus, today on The Law, Samson Lardy Anyenini and his guest discuss the property rights of women and the Intestate Succession Law.
The Intestate Succession Law (1985) promotes spousal inheritance of property and assets.
The enactment of the law seeks to streamline inheritance arrangement in the country and correct discrimination which existed against the surviving spouse and children under the customary inheritance system, especially in the matrilineal system.
Joining Samson Lardy Anyenini on the show to discuss this further is Chairperson of the Executive Council of LAWA Ghana Lawyer Sheila Minkah-Premo.
