A statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Finance Ministry said after recovering from Covid-19 last December, Mr Ofori-Atta suffered medical complications.
Consequently, his doctors advised that he would need further medical assistance which is not currently available in the country so he flew out on Sunday.
He is expected to be away for two weeks.
Meanwhile, Mr Ofori-Atta was scheduled to appear before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday but that has been postponed.
He has written to the leadership of Committee to notify them of his condition and asked for a new date to be fixed upon his return.
