Covid-19 vaccines in Ghana are free for average Ghanaian - Ghana Health Service

Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe says the Covid-19 vaccine which Ghana is yet to receive will be free for Ghanaians.

He told JoyNews' Newsfile host Samson Lardy Anyenini that vaccines in Ghana are wholly free whether it is Covid-19 or measles.

"They’re not paid for. They are paid for by government. So the average Ghanaian does not pay for it. It’s free," he added.

Meanwhile, government is spending over $200 million to procure Covid-19 vaccine for the entire population.

Dr Asiedu-Bekoe in a press conference on Thursday disclosed that the price of the vaccine available presently ranged from $4 to $20 and that would be the cost at which every Ghanaian would be vaccinated.

Also, Ghana is among 145 counties listed to receive vaccines from a number of suppliers through the COVAX Facility according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Ghana is earmarked to take delivery of 2.4 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine which is licensed to the Serum Institute of India (AZ/SII).
