The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has apprehended nine persons said to have been involved in a shooting incident at Madagbeh, a community in the Ada West District.
The arrest follows an investigation carried out by the Sege Police after the shooting near Songor Lagoon on Friday.
Eleven persons were reported to have sustained injuries and four out of the total were in critical condition at the Ada East District Hospital.
Although motive for the shooting has not been identified, an eyewitness said “masked macho men in pickups, threatened to kill them in the village for killing and dumping their colleague in the bush.
“One of them said we are fools for working against MacDan’s take over of the Songor Lagoon.”
Police Commander, DSP George Aboagye during an interview with JoyNews said investigations are still on going to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.
“We can never sit down for people to the laws into their hands and do anything, anyhow. We went there on Friday to identify those who did such acts. It wasn’t easy but we were able to arrest nine people,” he said.
He stated that the culprits are in police custody for interrogations.
Again, DSP George Aboagye gave the assurance that security in the area has been boosted to deter such crimes from happening.
Meanwhile, Assemblymember for the area, James Tsiani Gadugah has called on government on settle unresolved issues surrounding Valco Salt and Songor Lagoon which may have led to the shooting incident.
“If the government has handed over Valco salt to an investor, I don’t think Songor Lagoon is part of it. The person has to work solely with Valco and not Songor itself,” he said.
A medical practitioner at the Ada East district hospital, Dr Joseph Tetteh has indicated that all 11 persons who sustained injuries are in a stable condition and receiving treatment.
