The Management of Sunyani Technical University in the Bono Region has rolled out internal measures aimed at protecting students and staff against the Covid-19 pandemic.
As such, management at its regular meeting on Monday, 1st February 2021, directed all Faculty Members to employ combined face-to-face and Virtual Learning tools to minimize human contact as much as possible.
"Large classes should be broken into groups/sessions where face-to-face is required, a press statement signed by Dickson Kyere-Duah, the Public Relations Officer of the University said.
This is on the back of the surge in Covid-19 cases in Ghana and the subsequent 23rd Covid-19 update by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Sunday, 31st January 2021.
The University’s Covid-19 Taskforce and Security Section have also been directed by the management to ensure strict compliance and enforcement of the Covid-19 protocols.
"Students and staff are reminded to strictly abide by the University’s policy of mandatory wearing of face masks at all times on campus," the statement said.
The statement further said all social gatherings and sporting activities are banned. Religious activities, however, are allowed but will only happen under very strict Covid-19 safety protocols and closely scrutinized and monitored by the University Chaplain and the University's Covid-19 Taskforce.
Meanwhile, as part of the intensified measures to protect, not only students, but staff also, a special notice to the members of the entire Sunyani Technical University Community, signed by the Registrar, Mr. Samuel Akama Obour said, "the University shall be operating a shift system for Administrative and Library staff with immediate effect".
Ghana started 2021 with an increase in daily recorded Covid-19 cases. According to the latest updates by the Ghana Health Services, Ghana has 68,559 confirmed cases, out of which 5,786 are active cases, 777 are new cases, and 433 deaths recorded.
