Four victims of the Buipe-Tamale highway accident who sustained major injuries are in critical condition at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
The accident they were in involved two vehicles; a Yutong bus with registration number AC 1699-20 and another bus with registration number GN 3345-16.
It is suspected that the collision that happened at Sarekyekura in the Savannah Region on Tuesday was caused by fatigue on the part of one of the drivers.
This resulted in the death of 18 persons, 4 in critical condition and 45 injured and receiving treatment.
According to a report by JoyNews' correspondent Martina Bugri, these 4 persons sustained severe injuries to the head and other vital organs of the body.
Public Relations Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Mohammed Misbawu indicated that the victims will have to be referred to other health facilities for further medical care and treatment.
The Savannah Regional Fire Commander said both drivers died on the spot with two other people dying at the health facility they were sent to.
So far, 10 bodies out of the 18 deceased have been identified and retrieved by their families.
Meanwhile, four bodies are yet to be identified while four identified bodies are yet to be retrieved by the various families.
