The Appointments Committee of Parliament has announced that certain portfolios will be prioritised as members gear up to commence vetting on February 10.
Making the announcement on the floor of Parliament Friday, Ranking member of the Committee, Haruna Iddrisu said, “priority will be given to some ministers, particularly health because of the Covid-19 situation in the country.”
He added that the Health Minister-designate will probably be the first minister to be considered by the committee “followed by other ministers of national security and finance.”
He made this known while requesting for public memoranda in respect of all the President’s appointees to ministerial positions.
The Appointments Committee’s decision follows a sharp rise in Covid-19 cases in the country.
In the latest update release from the Ghana Health Service, 28 more persons have died from the novel coronavirus as the country recorded 797 new infections as of January 27.
This brings the death toll to 405 and 4,665 active cases.
New cases have been recorded in all 16 regions and it is expected that government may take stricter measures to control the spread of the virus as citizens continue to flout safety protocols.
