The Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has embarked on an indefinite strike action.
Following the declaration on January 13 to the National Labour Commission of their intention to embark on an industrial action, the Association have subsequently put it into effect.
"I wish on behalf of the National Executive Council to announce the withdrawal of services by all members of the Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana with immediate effect.
In October last year, after the National Labor Commission secured an injunction barring it from continuing the action. As such, the group which is made up of non-teaching senior staff in public universities suspended its strike, in which they were demanding better conditions of service.
A statement signed Thursday, by the National President of the association, Zukaria Mohammed, said the non-payment of the Tier two pension arrears of members, market premium and non-basic allowance, as well as failure by Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to engage on Conditions of Service, hence the strike action.
The Association has urged all dedicated members "to lay down their tools until further notice" as they protest against bad working conditions.
