The 8th Parliament has approved several nominated members for the Business and Appointments Committees.
Speaker Alban Bagbin, Tuesday, January 19, presided over the approval of the two Committees in accordance with Article 103 of the 1992 Constitution and Order 151 of the Standing Orders of the House.
The Business Committee sets out what agenda the House should deal with every week at a sitting while the Appointments Committee is responsible for vetting ministerial nominees by President Akufo-Addo.
In a report by JoyNews' Parliamentary Correspondent Joseph Opoku Gakpo, First Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei-Owusu would Chair the Appointments Committee together with Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo Markin as Vice-Chair.
According to Joseph Gakpo, Francis Xavier Fosu and John Kuma are among some legislators on both caucuses in the House who made their debut in the two approved committees.
He also indicated that in the same development, the Chief Whip for the NPP raised some concerns on the distribution of members in the committee.
Mr. Afenyo Markin argued that when counting the number of members in the Appointments Committee, the first deputy Speaker must be excluded since he has no voting right.
His comment comes after several calls by the NDC Caucus for a fair and equal representation of legislators on committees.
Meanwhile, the list of appointed members on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) side in Parliament include MP for Assin South John Ntim Fordjour, Nsawam Adoagyiri MP, Frank Annoh Dompreh, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Henry Quartey, Ablekuma West MP Ursula Owusu-Ekuful among others.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is duly represented by the Tamale South MP, Haruna Iddrisu as ranking member, Muntaka Mubarak, Mahama Ayariga, MP for Odododiodoo Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, North Tongu MP Samuel Akodzeto among others.
