The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Caucus in Parliament has alleged that there has been a breach of the Presidential Transition Act 2012 as government has been unable to submit copies of the handing over notes of former appointees.
At a media briefing on Tuesday, leader of the caucus, Haruna Iddrisu indicated that Section 7 of the Act states categorically that copies of the handing over notes are to be given to the Administrator-General be made available to Parliament.
This, according to Mr Iddrisu, has not happened yet although it has been nearly two weeks since the first term of President Akufo-Addo ended.
“Section 7 of Act 845 requires an Administrator-General...He shall make available to the person elected as president, the original copies of the handing over notes, he shall retain one and make one available to Parliament.
"But as we speak today, Parliament has no such record, official or formal in its possession of any handing over notes from any of the MDAs as required under Section 7 of Act 845 that is in breach," he said.
As part of his submission, the Tamale South MP stated that "it is not responsible enough for a government that must be accountable to the people of Ghana and to the Parliament of Ghana. So we are demanding, in respect to the letter and spirit of Act 845 that all handing over notes of Ministry departments and agencies are made available to Parliament."
He further added that the notes will assist the vetting and appointment committees as they exercise oversight on the Executive.
Meanwhile, the House resumed sitting after 2:00 pm today.
Speaker Alban Bagbin, subsequently, suspended sitting to allow for further consultations on how committees of the house should be constituted.
