The Ghana National Association of Teachers, GNAT has described as disappointing the widespread disregard for Covid-19 protocols by basic school pupils.
JoyNews checks yesterday revealed that some public schools across the country were not adhering the Covid-19 safety protocols following the reopening of schools.
Speaking to Joy News in an interview, President of GNAT, Philippa Larsen said she expects the schools and parents to enforce compliance to the safety measures in order to remedy the situation.
"I’m disappointed because this morning I stepped out of the house and in-between people’s homes and the schools, you could see a lot of the students about 85 to 90 per cent of them were without the nose mask."
She also disclosed that although some schools are yet to receive their supply of PPEs from government, others have taken delivery of theirs.
"That is the information we had. Because even before today, we had information that the supply had commenced and some regions had received the items and they’re also going to start with the supply to the various districts. And then for onward supply to the various schools."
She was hopeful that the majority of schools will be receiving their PPEs today so that each student will be given a nose mask while they wait for the rest of the supplies from the government.
"And so we expected that at least by today, even if not all schools, majority of the schools would have received their PPEs and then each child could get at least a nose mask while we wait from the rest of the supplies to be given out to the children."
