The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has commissioned two newly-constructed police stations and a headquarters at Dromankesse and Kranka all in the Nkoranza North District of Bono East Region.
The project, funded by the outgoing Member of Parliament, Nananom and communities as well as the District Assembly, seeks to address the perennial security challenges in the area.
Speaking on behalf of the IGP, the Director-General in Charge of Technical in the police administration, COP Samuel Monney, eulogised the outgoing MP, Nananom and the Assembly for constructing the edifice, which he said would go a long way to enhance security in the district.
According to him, effective policing thrived on a strong partnership between the public and the police. He also urged the people of the Constituency to support the police by volunteering vital information to help them rid the society of criminals.
He also entreated community members to cooperate with the police and live in harmony as well as seek redress through the appropriate channels rather than resorting to violence, adding that no police officer would be shielded for any acts of misconduct.
Cautioning the police personnel against the wanton abuse of civilians' human rights, he stressed the need for them to be professional all the time.
"Personnel of the service should also note that collaboration and support from the public can only be assured when they demonstrate professionalism, respect for civil liberties, human right of the people and remain accountable to the people in all their actions," he added.
The Bono East Regional Minister, Kofi Amoakohene, said the project will go a long way to beef up security in the district as well as the region, he added that the provision of the facility did not mark the end of security challenges in the area and called on all stakeholders to continue playing their respective roles to ensure maximum security.
He advised the people to be responsible for their own personal security and endeavour to complement the police to succeed in their core mandate of protecting lives and properties.
"What has really cost Bono East the most is arm robbery, let's all help the police to put an end to this, let us all be each other's keeper," he stated.
However, the outgoing Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza North, Derick Oduro (Dero) who also doubles as the Deputy Defense Minister stated there is the need to improve security in the area in order to reduce crime in the area.
He commended the people in the area and the traditional rulers for their unflinching support since he assumed office and pledged his commitment to partner with them for the development of the district since he is not an MP.
Meanwhile the chief of Dromankesse, Obrempong Danso Abeam appealed for more police men to fight against criminal activities in the area especially Fulani headsmen activities from destroying farm lands.
