The Cancer Support Network of Ghana, a local health non-governmental organization campaigning against cancer has presented a cheque of GHC9,100.00 to five breast cancer patients currently seeking treatment at the Surgical Department of the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital at a ceremony in Accra.
The NGO for the past few years has been creating extensive awareness on cancer and has also been giving financial support to cancer patients undergoing various treatments across the country.
Presenting the symbolic cheques to the beneficiaries, the financial secretary for the NGO, Mr. Ato Quansah said his organization makes donations to some cancer patients to support their treatments.
Mr. Quansah stated that the organization channels its support to needy cancer patients.
“We educate people about how they can detect the disease early and how to seek early treatment,” said Mr. Ato Quansah,
On how to select the beneficiaries, Mr. Quansah said the selection process is done by his organization in conjunction with the staff of the hospital where patients are receiving treatment.
According to him, the hospital authorities select the people who most need financial support to undergo treatment.
Receiving the donation, the Deputy Director of Nursing Services, Breast Cancer Unity of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Madam Felicia Ahiawornu thanked the organization for the support.
She used the occasion to appeal to other benevolent institutions to copy the example of the Cancer Support Network.
