Head of Public Affairs at the Accra Regional Police Command, DSP Effia Tenge, has observed that one of the best and cheap intruder alarm systems for homes are dogs.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Law on Sunday, she indicated that, aside from technological devices such as the CCTV cameras, dogs are also a pivotal alarm system in helping draw attention to suspicious activity.
“If something is unusual, the dog will definitely bark for you to know that something is calling for your attention,” she said.
Her comment follows the surge in robbery cases, attacks and murders in various parts of the country over the years.
Out of the many, former MP for Abuakwa North, J.B Danquah Adu was stabbed to death on the night of Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at his Shiashie residence in Accra.
Also, the late Mfantseman MP, Ekow Quansah Hayford was shot by unidentified gunmen while returning from a campaign tour of his constituency.
DSP Effia Teng, however, cautioned the general public to be circumspect when dealing with matters of security.
She advised that Ghanaians should make it a point to memorise the police emergency number (191 and 18555) for assistance during any suspicious occurrences.
“Have them, don’t just keep them to your chest, share it with other members of the house, let your children know them so that when you are distress you would not be the only one to have to call the police for assistance.
