Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has called on Ghanaians to prioritise national cohesion, peace and tranquillity over personal gratification.
"I am very much convinced that the Lord who granted us the will-power to prioritise national cohesion, peace and tranquillity over personal gratification, is capable and would do the same today for us.”
According to him, he and President Akufo-Addo conceded after losing the 2008 election even though they were pained and wants Ghanaians to emulate same to maintain peace in the country.
Speaking during a Christmas service at the Victory Bible Church, Dominion sanctuary in Awoshie, Accra, he stressed that losing an election is not always a pleasant moment for the defeated.
“It is not always easy when you lose an election. We lost one just by 40,000 votes in 2008 but we prioritize the peace and sanctity of our democracy and conceded."
He, however, thanked God for seeing the country through peaceful elections, trusting that same will help maintain peace even after.
The Vice President who was accompanied by the Second lady, Samira Bawumia wants Ghanaian to be proud of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) victory, adding that it is for God and country.
“At the end of the day, we have finished the elections, we have given the victory to the Lord and it is a victory for Ghana and we should be proud of that.”
“The victory can only be for the Lord, it is not for us.”
Dr Bawumia further encouraged Ghanaian to partake in maintaining peace in the country.
“We just have to avail ourselves to be used by God as the instrument of peace.
We pray to God to grant us dominion over the act of omission and commission that stands as a threat to the unity and peace we are enjoying in the nation.”
