National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso West Wuoguon, John Dumelo has finally conceded defeat to the incumbent MP, Lydia Alhassan in the just-ended elections.
Taking to his Facebook page, the actor indicated that even though he is not content with the outcome of the results, he is willing to put Ghana first and allow peace to prevail.
“I may not be satisfied with the final results or the irregularities that occurred, but before everything else I am Ghanaian and I will always put the people first “Ut omnes onum sint”. So I’m ready to help to make this constituency the greatest," he said.
He added, “To Lydia, many said it was impossible for me to even dream of winning, but the numbers I pulled in and you winning by a very small margin, especially in such a stronghold of the NPP makes me extremely proud of the whole campaign.”
Prior to his concession, John Dumelo had requested a recount of votes in the constituency.
According to him, there were several irregularities during the December polls.
However, in the late hours of Sunday, Mr Dumelo embraced his fate and assured to come back stronger.
According to him, in 2004, he contested for KNUST Queens Hall Secretary but lost, however in 2005 he stood for KNUST Organising Secretary, Civil Engineering Students Association and this round he won.
Again in 2019 he stood for the NDC parliamentary primaries and won. He indicated that losing the December 7 elections as MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency will not deter him.
"Truth is, every time I lose, I come back stronger because I don’t see it as a loss, I see it as a journey to perfection. It is only when you are down that you appreciate what it takes to get back up," he recounted.
The actor-turned-politician expressing his appreciation to electorate said, “So I want to thank the over 37,000 people who voted for me in Ayawaso West Wuogon. From the bottom of my heart, I really appreciate you all. To those that didn’t vote for me, I hope that in the future I can work and prove to you that I’m worthy of your vote.”
He also extended his gratitude to his collogues actors and friends in the creative art industry for supporting him during his campaign.
Nonetheless, John Dumelo in his post also revealed his plans on going back to farming and extending a helping hand to the needy.
“I will continue farming, traveling around Ghana, engaging people, helping entrepreneurs and touching the lives of as many Ghanaians as I can; “facta non verba”.
