Executive Director for  African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA), Dr Rasheed Draman, has urged the two major political parties to work together and avoid gridlock.

According to him, the 8th Parliament with both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) winning equal seats may lead to difficulties in having a 'definite' decision.

His comment comes on the back of the NDC’s victory in the Sene West constituency in the Bono East Region on Thursday, giving the party 137 seats in Parliament.

"I foresee some serious gridlock if the two parties are not able to resolve the current electoral differences and challenges," he said.

Currently, both the ruling NPP and opposition NDC have secured 137 parliamentary seats apiece with the only independent member, Andrews Amoako Asiamah declaring his allegiance to the governing side of the isle.

While highlighting the feasibility of a power-sharing arrangement, Dr Draman opined that these potential gridlocks can be eliminated if both parties can compromise and work together in Parliament for the development of the country.

"They will have to look at the interest of all of us and find ways of compromising and dialoguing and working together," he noted.
