The Central Region Police Command has arrested the District Chief Executive of Ajumako Enyan Essiam, Ransford Kwesi Nyarko for assaulting a police officer and freeing a suspect in custody.
The DCE is alleged to have driven to the Ogyeso Police Station Charge Officer on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, in the company of some men.
He is reported to have subsequently ordered his posse to assault the police officer on duty.
Narrating the incidents leading to the assault, the Regional Police PRO, DSP Irene Oppong said the victim, Corporal Frank Mensah was at post when a complainant went to the Charge Office around 9:30 pm to complain that one Cosmos had assaulted her grandson.
The Officer then accompanied the complainant and effected the arrest and placed the suspect in the Police cells, while taking statements from the parties involved.
According to the Police, he received a call from someone who identified himself as Bob, however, the said Bob verbally abused him, so he ended the call and went about his duties.
A few minutes later, a motorbike and two cars including the vehicle of the DCE arrived at the premises of the Police Station.
That was when his attackers physically abused him and freed the suspect he had arrested earlier.
The victim, after being assaulted reported the issue to the Divisional headquarters.
DSP Oppong noted the DCE on Monday, turned himself in to the Regional Police Command from where the case was transferred for further investigation.
The PRO then stressed that the Command will work diligently to ensure that the police officer gets justice.
