Political Scientist, Dr. Samuel Adu Gyamfi, says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) stands the chance of winning future elections if the party stays focused on winning more votes in traditional Ashanti areas.
The NDC seems to have increased their nominal votes in the Ashanti Region in the 2020 election.
These votes were from areas where the NDC have always been favoured due to the demographics of the areas.
Speaking to David Akuetteh on “Luv in the morning” Show on Luv Fm, Dr. Adu-Gyamfi said the 2020 election results have shown the NPP is too strong in the Ashanti region.
For the NDC to stand any chance in subsequent elections, the political scientist says the NDC would have to target votes from areas that have more Asantes voting.
In the 2020 election results declared by the Electoral Commission, the NPP had 1,795,824 whilst the NDC had 653,149 in the Ashanti Region.
Dr Adu Gyamfi said the NDC can significantly increase the figure if they make a conscious effort to target votes from other areas that predominantly vote for the NPP.
The NDC won 4 out of 47 constituencies in the Ashanti region. These are Asawase, New Edubiase, Sekyere Afram Plains and Ejura Sekyeredumase.
