Voting is still ongoing at some polling stations within the Bantama and Tamale North constituencies due to long queues even after the 5:00pm deadline.
According to the Electoral Commission, rechargeable lamps have also been provided to ensure that voting continues seamlessly.
In a statement from the EC, it stated, “The Electoral Commission is aware that by the close of polls at 5:00pm today, there were long queues in some polling stations within Bantama and Tamale North constituencies and as such, voting is still ongoing.
‘To ensure a seamless and orderly voting process in the affected Polling Stations, the Commission has provided rechargeable lamps to ensure that voting continues in a seamless manner.”
The EC added that the Commission has also activated additional Biometric Verification Devices to speed up the voting process.
“In addition, all officials on the ground are working tirelessly and security has also been beefed up to ensure the process is peaceful and orderly,” the Commission added.
They assured the general public that no electorate will be disenfranchised as a result of the delay.
“Every voter will be allowed to cast their vote and every vote will be counted,” the statement concluded.
