The Ghana Premier League is gathering more pace and drama with two coaches, already being axed.
Somewhat surprisingly, Karela are on top of the table while Hearts of Oak, find themselves languishing around the bottom.
With a game in hand, Hearts probably have a little time to change their fortunes but there's that and more to expect in this matchday.
Coaches' Reunion
The drama of the league is accompanied by some bit of nostalgia as two familiar faces, Bashir Hayford and Kosta Papic return to an all too well-known setting of Ghana football.
Bashir Hayford was announced by Legon Cities as their new head coach last week but he makes his debut for The Royals this week when they travel to Dawu to play Dreams FC. That fixture could prove to be a tricky return for Bashir, with Dreams boasting of a good home record.
Kosta Papic returns to Accra Hearts of Oak where he set the foundation for the club's 20th title charge in 2008/09 season. He returns at a time where the club seeks a change in fortune and are desperate to redeem themselves after a somewhat poor run of performances in their last campaigns.
More of Gyan?
The striker finally made his debut for Legon Cities against Medeama and though he played just 20 minutes, it was an encouraging display from the 35-year-old.
Assistant coach of Legon Cities, Wahid Mohammed, who took charge of that game indicated that the plan is to gradually ease the striker into the demands of the league hence, it is expected Gyan will last more than 20 minutes in this week's game against Dreams.
Karela brilliance
It's still early in the season but Karela are in inspired form. They are yet to lose a game and are currently seated at the top of the table with seven points.
The Aiyinase-based side have scored five goals in three games and look set to continue the trend set over the last 6 years of a club other than Hearts or Kotoko winning Ghana's ultimate.
This week, they face Hearts of Oak, a team struggling for form after two games. Hearts currently last, with one point from three games, will match up arguably their worst start to a season in 1986, where they had only three points from three games, should they lose this encounter.
However, Hearts seem to have the advantage of history smiling upon them as they have won the only single encounter between the two sides.
The inspired form of Karela, a catalyst for their string of impressive performances might brush off that dust of history nonetheless.
Continuous struggles on the road
The Ghana Premier League this season, is yet to witness any way victories.
For all the 24 away matches played this season, 15 have ended in stalemates, 37.5% loses while 37.5% of matches have seen away sides fail to score.
With Liberty traveling to Berekum, Legon Cities going to Dreams, WAFA taking a trip to Techiman to face off Eleven Wonders and Great Olympics hosting Ebusua Dwarfs, it is expected the sour run of poor results on the road, will be extended to next week.
Open gates in minutes leading to and after halftime
In the round of games played last week, out of the nine goals recorded, four came in the dying minutes of the first half while three came within the 55th - 65th minutes of the 2nd half.
The winning goal in the Karela vs Dreams encounter was scored in the 65th minute while Allies got their winner against Hearts of Oak in the 61st minute.
WAFA v Elmina Sharks which ended in a 1-1 draw saw its goals split between the two dead zones of last week, with Elmina Sharks scoring in the 41st minute before WAFA found the equaliser in the 55th minute.
There were only two games last week where goals were scored outside these time frames; Dwarfs vs Berekum Chelsea and Karela vs Dreams.
Dwarfs got the only goal of their game with Berekum Chelsea in the 21st minute and even in the Karela v Dreams game, Esso's goal came in the 37th minute, quite close to Joy Sports' first half 40th minute mark dead zone, isn't it?
So yes, in matchday 4, expect your goal notifications to go off around these Joy Sports' time dead zones.
