The Aviation Minister, Joseph Kofi Adda, says negotiations with Egypt Air are at an advanced stage to relaunch a 'National Flag Carrier'.
The Minister had earlier discounted reports of the government handing over five aircrafts to the ministry to commence the operations of a home based carrier.
In a press statement, the minister stated that no agreement has been signed yet with the strategic partner.
“We wish to let the public know that we are at an advanced stage in our negotiations with EgyptAir on a Strategic Partnership arrangement to relaunch a National Flag Carrier but the matter has not yet received Cabinet and certainly not Parliamentary Approval.
"These two processes are yet to be carried out, an Air Carrier License (ACL) obtained before an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) granted by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) before we can take delivery of and operate any airline or use any aircraft,” excerpts of the Minister’s statement revealed.
Official reports from Egypt show the national carrier signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ghana to become a strategic partner in developing a new airline affiliated with the Ghanaian government.
This move came as part of EgyptAir’s constant endeavor to develop the air transport industry across the African continent, the ministry said.
EgyptAir is a 100 percent state-owned company.
The EgyptAir Holding Company, established in 2002, includes nine subsidiaries.
