Several institutions and personalities that include, the Department of Political Science at the University Of Ghana, Pollster Ben Ephson among others have predicted the 2020 general elections based on past polls in Ghana.
In 2016 elections, the presidential office was fought among 7 candidates.
The candidate included: Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Papa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People's Party (PPP).
Edward Mahama of the People's National Convention (PNC), Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and the Independent candidate, Jacob Osei Yeboah.
Registered voters for 2016 were 15,712,499 and the total votes cast for the 2016 polls were 10,881,083.
At the end of the 2016 polls, the NPP's Akufo-Addo won the presidential seat with 5,755,758 votes, representing 53.72%
John Mahama of the NDC lost with 4,771,188 votes representing 44.53%
PPP, CPP, PNC, NDP and the independent candidate followed with 0.99%, 0.24%, 0.21%, 0.16%, 0.15% respectively.
Out of the total votes cast, 1.545% was considered as rejected ballots.
