Legon Cities star Asamoah Gyan has no intention of stopping his unassigned player-coach role at the Ghana Premier League side.
Gyan, 35, is accorded the utmost respect by the team due to his experience of playing at the highest level. This appears to be the motivation as Gyan is often seen dishing out instructions to his colleagues.
In the first two games, Gyan did not play due to fitness issues but made his first appearance this past weekend in their goalless draw against Medeama.
Against Berekum Chelsea and Great Olympics, dressing room videos showed Gyan coaching his teammates. On Friday, while on the bench and during warm-up, he was seen doing the same thing.
At the post-match press conference, Gyan was asked to clarify why he sometimes appears to be doing the job of the coach.
Gyan, who is Ghana's all-time top scorer with 51 goals said: "I am a very passionate person. I am very funny, jovial and I can make everybody laugh but when it comes to working, I don't joke. If somebody is going to stab my brother and I am there I won't allow it.
He added: The coach is not perfect. I am just behind him shouting at players. That doesn't mean I am the coach. I am also trying to contribute."
Gyan joined Legon Cities in October after swerving 'dream club' Asante Kotoko. He has played 20 minutes.
Legon Cities have picked up two points from three games. After their second match, which they suffered a 3-0 defeat against Great Olympics, they sacked Goran Barjaktarevic and appointed Bashir Hayford as head coach.
