CEO Network discusses prospects of African Free Trade

As part of efforts to immensely benefit from the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), members of the CEO Network Ghana have organised a cocktail engagement to discuss the prospects of the Continental Free Trade Agreement.

The cocktail engagement afforded members of the network an opportunity to interact and proffer ideas to the Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area, Wamkele Mene.

Wamkele Mene used the platform to assure members of the network that the deal will benefit all countries despite their levels of development.

He described the status of the African Continental Trade Area as the fastest trade agreement to be adopted by African Continent member countries.

According to him, the commitment shown by heads of states is an indication that the deal will work to the benefit of all.

With about two months to begin the implementation of the Continental Free Trade Area deal, many businesses in Ghana are gearing up to take up the opportunity of trading among their counterparts without trade barriers.

The agreement is expected to give free market access to all member countries that have been ratified so far and increase Intra Africa Trade by more than 50% from its current 18%.

Wamkele Mene reiterated the commitment of the African Union to ensure that no member country is shortchanged in the deal.

He described it as the fastest agreement to be adopted by Africa since the creation of the African Union.

CEO Network hails AfCFTA

Chief Executive of the CEO’s Network, Ernest De-Graft Egyir, hailed the AfCFTA, expressing confidence that members will take advantage of the meeting to enhance their education of the agreement.

He believes that CEO’s in Ghana must come together to be able to have a better understanding of the concept for the continental free trade area.

Chief Executive of The McDan Group, Daniel Mckorley on his part welcomed the Secretary General to Ghana and assured him of maximum support from Ghana's private sector on the successful implementation of the trade agreement.

He was confident that Africa will be the winner come January 2021.

The event brought together several high profile captains of industries.
