The Ghana Premier league is starting to take shape as the third round of matches approach.
The four games we picked last week saw 11 goals, two braces, a 97th minute equaliser and the sacking of Goran Barjaktarević.
Asante Kotoko and AshGold will both be on assignment in Africa as the preliminary stages for the CAF Champions league and Confederations Cup begin this weekend.
However, these are the four key games you can’t afford to miss:
Legon Cities vs Medeama
Legon Cities begin a new era after Goran Barjaktarević was sacked during the week. The new coach at the helm is the experienced Bashir Hayford.
Up next for the Royals is a tricky tie at home against Medeama SC. The Mauve and Yellows have been struggling for form after being touted as title favourites before the start of the season.
Samuel Boadu’s men have picked up just one point in their first two games and will be looking for their first three points.
Boadu attributed their loss against Dreams FC last matchday to “a lack of concentration” and vowed his team will improve before the Legon Cities fixture.
Legon Cities themselves will also be eager for a good performance as they continue their pursuit for a top four finish in the league this season.
Captain of the Accra-based side, Fatau Dauda urged his teammates to work hard to turn their fortunes around.
“We need to work extra before we can beat Medeama. It’s possible. We know they’re a good side that’s why we need to work our socks off because it’s not going to be easy,” the seasoned goalkeeper said.
The Royals will know they would need to play above themselves if they are to get anything from the game on Friday.
Medeama comfortably beat Legon Cities 2-0 at the Accra sports stadium when the two sides met last season.
Stadium: Accra Sports stadium, Accra
Time: Friday, 18:00GMT
Prediction: Legon Cities 1-2 Medeama SC
Inter Allies vs Heart of Oak
It’s been a difficult start for Inter Allies who sit in the relegation zone with one point from two games.
One of the factors for Henrik Lehm’s poor start to the season has been a lack of goals. Last season, former strikers Victorien Adebayor and Samuel Armah contributed to 18 out of the team’s 23 goals.
Inter Allies will be looking to score their first goal of the season when they welcome Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports stadium.
The Phobians drew 2-2 with AshGold in their season opener om matchday two.
Coach of Hearts, Nii Odoom wasn’t pleased with his side’s conversion rate as he felt his team should have killed off the game against AshGold by taking their chances.
Man of the match, Patrick Razak was a torn in the flesh of the defence of the Miners and will be Hearts’ outlet when they face a determined Inter Allies side.
Stadium: Accra Sports stadium, Accra
Time: Sunday, 18:00GMT
Prediction: Inter Allies 1-3 Hearts of Oak
WAFA vs Elmina Sharks
WAFA look to get back to winning ways after a setback against Bechem United on matchday two.
The Academy boys return to their home turf where they beat King Faisal 4-3 in the opening week of the Ghana Premier League.
Sharks on the other hand, are unbeaten in the Ghana Premier League after registering two draws so far.
The Fearsome Sharks will also be searching for their first victory of the season but know it will be a difficult task considering WAFA’s home form.
WAFA dominate the head to head having won two of the last four meetings against Sharks, losing just once.
Stadium: Red Bull Arena, Sogakope
Time: Sunday, 15:00GMT
Prediction: WAFA 2-1 Elmina Sharks
Karela United vs Dreams
Both sides have made impressive starts to the season so far with four points each and are joint top of the table.
Karela picked up a remarkable point away against Medeama in Tarkwa, before brushing aside Inter Allies in their second match.
Dreams FC started with a disappointing goalless draw against Inter Allies at the Accra Sports Stadium but made amends by beating Medeama 2-1 at Dawu.
Dreams’ new signing Joseph Esso will be one to keep an eye on. He was at the center of the attack of the Still Believe lads when they beat Medeama at the Theatre of Dreams.
For Karela, Diawisie Taylor has been their main threat with the forward scoring two goals so far this season.
Karela hold the upper hand in the head-to-head record, never losing a game to Dreams. Three of the games between the two clubs has ended in a draw with Karela winning the remaining game.
Both sides know a win could see them become dark horses in the title race this season.
Stadium: Cosby Awuah Memorial (CAM) Park in Nzema-Aiyinase
Time: Sunday, 15:00GMT
Prediction: Karela 1-1 Dreams FC
