President of the Creative Arts Council, Mark Okraku Mantey, has disclosed that his ex-girlfriend broke up with him years ago because he was a Disc Jockey (DJ).
According to him, being a DJ at the time was not attractive or respected like it is now.
"I lost a relationship because the person said I was a DJ and I wasn’t going to be someone better in the future," he said on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz show.
His comment comes after the massive attendance and reception witnessed at the 2020 Ghana DJ Awards held on Saturday, November 21.
Mr Okraku Mantey stated that it was important for DJs and people in the art to work hard while changing the narrative.
"That’s why we have to do well to remove that aspect that it’s a hopeless job and for outcasts. We must beautify it so we can be proud like the footballers."
"Today people want their kids to marry footballers but when we were young it wasn’t so," he said.
Mr Okraku Mantey said there is a need for DJs to change the perception of their craft and create a brand for themselves.
This he stressed will make the job more lucrative and encourage up-and-coming creatives as well.
