Neil-Armstrong Mortagbe, a sports management professional, has suggested that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) should share some of their rights to the Ghana Premier League to other stakeholders.
The FA owns all rights to the top-flight and other divisions. There have been talks in the past to make the league autonomous but the process is yet to fully take flight.
Following the GFA's disagreement with Kotoko over filming matches in the last few days, Mortagbe, former managing director of Hearts of Oak, suggested on the Joy Sports Link, Saturday, that the authority should be split with other stakeholders like clubs and the media.
"The FA has been very hesitant to divest itself of the rights to the Ghana Premier League because the Ghana Premier League remains one of the strongest brands of the FA. It is not easy to let go of that brand," he told Nathaniel Attoh on Saturday.
"The framework within which you let go of that brand should be such that the FA still generates some revenue from the Ghana Premier League with which to develop the other parts of the game."
"Let's say you have a Ghana Premier League company named GPL company limited, they pay 10-15% to the association for development of the game at other levels then the FA has something they can work with."
"There is a clear focus on the English Premier League. We have to do a framework [in Ghana] that works for everybody. We can have a league where the FA has a stake, the clubs have a stake, the media has a stake and the fans have a stake."
GFA will meet with clubs on Monday to settle issues on filming of matches this season.
