Players in Ghana's education space have been awarded at the just-ended Education Community (EDUCOM) Awards 2020.
This year’s edition was a virtual one as students and teachers alike were honoured for their various roles in boosting the sector.
Speaking at the event on November 14, 2020, Lead Consultant for the Neogenics Education Group explained that for the first time since its inception, the decision making was left to the public.
This move, Grant Bulmuo said, increased the participation and whipped up the interest among the general public as patronage increased significantly.
According to him, the votes were 50% public while the other half was left to the judges to evaluate as the entries poured in from many quarters.
In all, a total of 17 awards were presented on the night.
The event awarded accolades to groups including schools, students/pupils, parents, media houses, publishers, agencies, NGOs and other individuals or organisations.
Addressing the virtual audience, Mr Bulmuo expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the ceremony.
“We really appreciate all those who sent us inspirational messages just to encourage teachers and let them know that they are not alone and that the whole continent is behind them," he said.
He further explained that although “we have seem to have lost our annual opportunity at this year’s Global Super Teachers Conference and EDUCOM Awards but we’re still looking forward to more virtual opportunities to let the networking continue.”
He also hinted at ending the year with the Annual School Leaders Hangout where the Good Practice Schools (GPS) programmes will be launched.
The guest speaker was the Principal for the Ghana International School (GIS), Dr Mary Ashun.
In her address, she explained that the novel coronavirus pandemic provides an opportunity for innovation in the education value chain in order to stay afloat.
“If we don’t innovate, we will die with the changes that are bound to happen,” she added.
