Members of the diplomatic community in Ghana and leaders of the Christian community converged at the Accra International Conference Centre to sign the book of condolence jointly opened by the State and the family of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.
The first President of the Fourth Republic died last week after a short illness.
The book of condolence which was opened in honour of the country’s longest serving president has attracted people from all walks of life.
The family members of the late president sat at the foyer of the Accra International Conference Centre to receive sympathizers coming to bid farewell to the late head of state.
Some of the diplomats who passed through included the USA Ambassador to Ghana, Stephanie Sulivan, Acting Canadian High Commission to Ghana Sara Nicholls, Spanish Ambassador to Ghana Alicia Rico, Suriname Ambassador to Ghana, Natasha E.M. Natasha Halfhuid, and Pingfenoma Zagre, Ambassador of Burkina Faso to Ghana.
The Christian community was also represented by top personalities such as the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Rev Paul Frimpong Manso, Presiding Bishop and Founder of the Perez Dome, Bishop Charles Agyinasare and Archbishop Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle.
However, the Senior Minister Mr. Yaw Osafo Maafo, Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashitey, and the Presidential Candidate of the Ghana United Movement Mr. Christian Andrews were also there to sign the book.
The former President who died at the age of 73, left behind a wife, former First Lady Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings and four children; Zanetor, Amina, Yaa Asantewaa and Kimathi.
