The Tamale Central MP has accused the Akufo-Addo government of lacking the commitment to eradicate corruption following the resignation of the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu.
Inusah Fuseini in an interview on Joy FM’s Newsnight Monday said the Akufo-Addo-led government did not actually intend to fight corruption when he set up the Office of the Special Prosecutor but was only fulfilling an electioneering promise.
According to him, the President was only interested in touting that he has fulfilled his promise by appointing Martin Amidu popularly known as Citizen Vigilante, when in reality, necessary logistics needed by the independent office to fight corruption was deliberately denied him.
In view of that, for him, Martin Amidu’s resignation, “is a manifestation of the lack of commitment and dedication of President Akufo-Addo to fight corruption.
“Clearly, it demonstrates that, Akufo-Addo setting up the office was just fanciful. It was to add to things that he has done but yielding nothing,” he stated.
The Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu on Monday tended in his resignation letter to President Akufo-Addo after holding the position for three years.
The former Attorney General in his letter stated that the decision was after his independent analysis on government transactions, particularly, the Agyapa deal has resulted in “threats of my demise for serving my country without fear or favour.”
He also added “I have been a non-partisan anti-corruption crusader and not an anti-corruption entrepreneur.”
However, the Deputy General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party, Obiri Boahene said resignation is part of employer-employee relations so there is nothing new about it.
Therefore, the citizenry should not make fuss about Martin Amidu’s resignation.
“Martin Amidu is a human being and he has decided to resign, what is the big deal about this?”
He also cautioned the media to desist from politicising it since it can misconstrue the issue.
