Stakeholders in the health sector comprising laboratory technicians, pharmacists hospital administrators have come under one umbrella as Medical Technology Chamber with the aim to collaborate with government and regulators on modern technological standards.
President of the MedTech Chamber Africa, Eric Osei said it's their firm belief to penetrate Africa and more specifically the Ghanaian market to promote public safety, environmental and social sustainability in digital healthcare delivery.
"On the national and continental level, we have the various state and regional agencies reviewing and putting in place relevant policies and regulations to improve quality and access to the relevant MedTech to support the healthcare and wellness of our fast-growing nations and continent," he said during his speech in Accra.
In a speech read by Dr. Ignatius Awunibuno, the former President of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientistists, on behalf of the Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman Manu, he noted that government will be a partner at all levels to ensure the dream to deliver high standard technological innovative healthcare to the people is achieved.
"Ghana is committed to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC). UHC in Ghana means all people in Ghana have timely access to high-quality health services. Under the revised National Health Policy 2020 strategy: We intend to increase the availability and use of appropriate health technology/ infrastructure."
"Imagine having a medical laboratory test or X-ray results that is wrong, and your medical treatment is based on the “wrong” results. Depending on the disease condition, a situation of such could result in death at worst and at best leave your bad medical condition unchanged."
MedTech says its processes and procedures, as well as the devices, equipment, and tools employed in supporting wellness, disease diagnosis and treatment is what MedTech (Medical Technology) are prioritised.
MedTech will enable the early and accurate diagnosis of health problems, facilitating timely intervention and improving outcomes. It plays a major role in monitoring wellness, disease management and treatment.
It also plays a pivotal role in medical science and research while helping to deepen our understanding of diseases and also plan and project for improvement in treatment options and approaches.
MedTech says it's poised to create an efficient and effective MedTech industry environment to support the national health policy agenda, a development which is said to have formed the basis its status as an industry regulated at the national level.
With regard to personal healthcare levels, many wellness and healthcare efforts are supported by Homecare MedTech devices such BP Monitors, Glucometers among others.
Regulators strongly recommend calibrating homecare devices such as BP Monitors at appropriate regular intervals as part of efforts to optimize the benefits, derived from such devices.
On the back of this, MedTech is bent on playing its role in building a healthy nation.
